OUR PROCESS

Five disciplines. One sky made personal.

Every Illume object moves from an idea worth protecting to an experience worth keeping.

01 · THE IDEA

The Order of the Night Sky

Illume began with a fictional secret society built around a serious promise: notice the dark before it disappears. The Order gives the gift a language of belonging—an invitation to remember one consequential sky, then pay closer attention to the shared night around us.

The story is deliberately quiet. It gives the giver a way to say that this moment, this person, and this threatened natural resource deserve to be noticed.

02 · THE DESIGN

Resolve the object first.

The greeting card is a side-fold 5 × 7 object. The Astronomical Plate Print and poster are separate flat products. We draw the front, inside, back, envelope, trim, safe areas, ink limits, and packing geometry as wireframes before styling any surface.

That discipline keeps the product photography, web preview, and production PDF honest.

03 · THE CALCULATIONS

Move the sky through time.

The submitted local date and time are resolved through the place's timezone, latitude, and longitude. We account for precession and stellar proper motion, project the sky to the local horizon, and identify the stars that belong above that place at that moment.

A second calculation estimates which of those same stars remain visible there tonight.

04 · THE MAKING

Print, inspect, fold, pack.

Approved artwork becomes production plates and printer-ready files. Deep navy ink is pressed into warm cotton stock, fine lines and small type are inspected, and only the greeting card receives the side fold.

We pair it with its envelope, assemble any flat plates or poster, protect the surfaces, and pack the order by hand.

05 · THE EXPERIENCE

The method disappears.

The recipient first encounters a beautiful physical object, then recognizes a place, a date, a note, and a sky made only for them. The science is present everywhere, but it recedes at the moment the card is opened.

What remains is the human exchange: somebody chose to reconstruct the night their story began.
